East Greenwich Art Club

The East Greenwich Art Club will be showing their art exhibit, “Art is Wonderful," in the Conference Room of the Warwick Public Library on Sandy Lane from now until it is taken down on November 30. Paintings in oil, watercolor, pastels, mixed medial as well as photography will be on view. The exhibit is being judged by award-winning artist Lorena Pugh and prizes will be awarded at the opening reception November 9 from noon until 2 p.m. Refreshments will be available and all are welcome to attend.

Warwick Women's Club

The GFWC (General Federation of Women's Clubs) Warwick Women's Club will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Elizabeth Buffum Chase Center in Warwick, RI. The Warwick Women's Club is a civic/community-minded club which provides funds for local organizations such as the EBCC and provides services and support for organizations such as the Norwood Boys' and Girls' Club, R. I. Chatham Village Garden Club

The next monthly meeting of the Chatham Village Garden Club will be November 5 at 7 p.m. at 821 West Shore Road in Warwick.  The meeting will include a flower arranging workshop led by Jan Marcello. Members are reminded to bring donations of non-perishable items for families served by the Elizabeth Buffum Chace House. CHADD Presentation

“Organizational Strategies for your life with ADHD” is the program that the Rhode Island Chapter of CHADD will host November 6 from 7-9 p.m. in the Pine Room at Bradley Hospital, 1011 Veterans Memorial Pkwy., East Providence. Local holistic counselor Lisa Procter will share practical strategies on how to free us up from the burdens of too much stuff and how to effectively organize what we (and our children) have to focus on what’s really important – life. Harvest Bazaar

Spring Green Church Anniversary

Spring Green Memorial Church, 1350 Warwick Ave., will celebrate their 70th anniversary Nov. 9 and 10. Saturday will include a meet and greet at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 and a Village Singers concert at 7. Casino Trip

On November 11 the General Federation of Women's Club RI is having a fundraiser to help support women veterans. Opiate Overdose Prevention Training

You are invited to attend a very important meeting sponsored by Bridgemark Addiction Recovery Service and the Norwood Neighborhood Association November 20 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club, 42 Frederick Street. In 2016, over 60,000 people died from opiate addiction and since then many more have died. You can help reduce this tragedy by joining in opiate overdose prevention training where unexpectedly you could save someone’s life someday. There will be coffee, dessert, raffles and prizes. Help save someone’s life – maybe someone you know.

Providence Northern

Model Railroad Club

Providence Northern Model Railroad Club will host a 2-day Open House Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 15, 10 am to 4 p.m. at 1175 West Shore Road, Warwick. In the Old Warwick Grange Building. Suggested donations:  Adults $2.00, Family maximum $5.00, Children under 12 free. We are currently building an HO scale layout that is based on the New England area in 1985 from Providence, RI to Northern Vermont and reaching Montreal, Canada.  It is 35 feet by 60 feet with a 400 foot double track mainline, a separate single track branch line and supported by many staging yards.  The mainline and branch line are operational with yards, scenery and computer based signals in various stages of completion.  We use an NCE DCC control system.  Trains of all types will run at the open house, including:  “Thomas”, “The Hogwarts Express” & Amtrak’s Acela Express. Help support kids by becoming a mentor. Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 6 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. Art Supplies Needed

Thrive Behavioral Health’s Housing First Program would greatly appreciate donations of used or new art supplies to support therapeutic art activities for the chronically homeless population and those who struggle with mental illness. Creating art reduces stress, anxiety, fears and depression in people with mental illness and raises a person's quality of life. EBC Center Volunteers Needed

Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency located in Warwick serving victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. They are currently in need of volunteers to assist with answering their hotline and/or providing childcare while clients attend weekly support groups. All In A Chord Meetings

All In A Chord, an a capella chorus singing four-part harmony, is now meeting at 2-4 p.m. every Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 389 Greenwich Avenue, downstairs in the adjacent building. Anyone who loves to sing is welcome to come and visit any Tuesday afternoon. They are a group of friendly women with a common interest to sing. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to anyone 14 years of age or older interested in joining the corps.

New Counseling Program Available

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources. Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Greenwich Bay Women’s Club

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Green Airport Military Lounge Seeks Volunteers

The Rhode Island Military Organization (RIMO) Military Lounge at T.F. Green Airport is seeking volunteers to staff the lounge. Open 12 hours every day, the primary goal of the lounge is to provide a welcoming place for military service members, veterans and their families to relax and regroup during their travels. Approaching six years in operation, nearly 15,000 visitors have passed through the lounge doors. Yet, it’s the dedicated volunteers who keep the lounge open, clean, stocked and comfortable while providing a welcome smile and warm greeting to each visitor. Volunteers are asked to work four-shifts and may select their own work schedule but are asked to dedicate a minimum of four hours per month. Also, volunteers enjoy free parking at the airport. A great opportunity to give back to the community and thank our active duty and veterans for their service. All volunteers are required to fill out the RIMO application, acquire a background check, and attend a short training class. New volunteers can begin the process by contacting the RIMO office at 921-4393.
