Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become a member and volunteer. Tri City Elks Events

Our Lady of Mercy School will hold its first-ever Holiday Shopping Night and Trunk Show Dec. 5 from 5-9 p.m. at OLM School, Fourth Ave., East Greenwich. Join for a fun and festive evening filled with beautiful handmade items and artwork from local crafters and artisans, wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, raffle prizes and more.

Annual Live Jewelry Auction

Rhode Island Family Shelter’s  Annual Live Jewelry Auction will be held Dec. 6 at the Aldrich Mansion, 836 Warwick Neck Ave. Featuring jewelry by David Yurman, Judith Ripka, Alex + Ani, Tiffany, Ippolita, Erwin Pearl, Carolyn Pollack, Rose Gold/Bronze and 24k Gold. $15 minimum donation. Conimicut Village Tree Lighting

The Conimicut Village tree lighting will be held Dec. 6 at 6:30 pm in Donovan Park (corner of Beach Avenue and West Shore Road). Santa will arrive by fire truck at 6:20. Following the lighting, the Aldrich Junior High School chorus will provide holiday music in Woodbury Union Church. Refreshments will be served in the lower level of Woodbury Union. All are welcome to attend. Co-sponsored by the Conimicut Village Association and the Woodbury Union Church.

Crafting for Critters Craft Fair

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter is hosting their annual Crafting for Critters Christmas Craft Fair Dec. 7 at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road, Warwick, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Over 40 vendors will be gathered under one roof selling their wares just in time for Christmas. Products for sale include stained glass, Silpada jewelry, tutus for children, handmade chocolates, photography, handmade candles, crafts for animal lovers, handcrafted jewelry, Wildtree herbs, Pampered Chef housewares, baked goods, all natural dog treats, glass block art, clothing, books and more. Admission is free. For more information call 467-2692. Pets are not allowed in this facility, so please leave them at home. Vendor space is sold out. All proceeds will benefit the homeless animals at the Warwick Animal Shelter.

Pasta Dinner

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Warwick Memorial Post 272, 840 West Shore Road, will host a pasta dinner Dec. 7 from 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $8 per person. Children under 4 are half price. Deadline for ticket sales is Thursday, Dec. 5.

Christmas in New York

On Saturday, Dec. 7, the Greenwich Bay Women’s Club is sponsoring a daytrip to New York City. Come see the Christmas lights, shop for the holidays, take in a play - it’s up to you. The bus leaves R.I. at 7 a.m. and will drop you off mid-town. Enjoy your day, then head for home without having to drive. Breakfast to Benefit

New Non-Profit Veterinary Clinic

Companion Animal Welfare Society (CAWS) Veterinary Clinic, a newly formed non-profit that will open Jan. 2 at 88 West Warwick Ave., West Warwick, will hold a fundraising breakfast Dec. 7 from 8-10:30 a.m. at Dave’s Bar and Grill on Post Road, Warwick. CAWS will offer reduced fees for income qualified pet owners. The goal, explained veterinarian Paige Plumb, who will be running the clinic with veterinarian technician Denise Spender, is to provide quality care at affordable prices to those pet owners who otherwise would be leaving their pets at a municipal animal shelter because they don’t have the money. Breakfast tickets are $10. There will also be a number of raffle items and a free year of dog or cat food provided by Royal Canin as a door prize. Tickets may be reserved by calling the clinic at 615-2200 or at the door. Additional information can be found on the CAWS for Paws Facebook page.

GFWC Meeting

The GFWC Warwick Women’s Club will hold its monthly meeting Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Elizabeth Buffum Chase Center, Warwick. Members will be providing Christmas gifts for two families less fortunate. An All American Christmas

The Saint Kevin Adult Choir with the Saint Kevin School Chorus and the 88th Army Band and the Navy Band Newport presents Am All American Christmas Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane. $25 per person includes reserved seat at the concert. Christmas Concert

Saints Rose and Clement Parish will host their annual Christmas concert Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the church, 111 Long St., featuring the Ss. Rose and Clement adult choir and children’s chorus, Bishop Hendricken String Orchestra and Young Men’s Chorus and St. Rita’s Parish Choir. Tickets are $3 for adults, children 6 and under are free, and may be purchased at the door. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Stone Ridge Candlelight Tour

The Stone Ridge Neighborhood Association (located in East Greenwich) will be holding its annual Luminaria Dec. 14 from 5-9 p.m. with a rain date of Dec. 15. This is a long-standing neighborhood tradition spanning over 25 years. The neighborhood provides an outdoor display for the holidays, which includes traditional holiday decorations and thousands of paper bag lanterns decorating curbs, driveways and walkways.  Last year the neighborhood was lined with over 3,000 lit lanterns. People from all over Rhode Island come to slowly drive through the neighborhood with headlights dimmed. Follow Middle Road west of Route 2 to second right (Stone Ridge Drive).

Free Concert

There will be a free concert of Handel’s “Messiah” at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 9 New London Ave., West Warwick, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. The church has handicapped parking and accessibility. A free will offering will be accepted at the concert. The concert will include Part I - The Christmas Story and the Hallelujah Chorus and will feature four prominent Rhode Island soloists with a 40-voice choir. The vocalists for this choral masterpiece will be accompanied by a professional string quartet and harpsichord. Handel’s “Messiah” is arguably the most popular and frequently performed choral work since its first performance for charity in Dublin, Ireland in 1742. Celebrate the Christmas season with a concert of this traditional, choral masterpiece.
