Carbone earns endorsement from Progressive Democrats of RI

Posted

Mayoral candidate Gerald Carbone will accept an endorsement from the Rhode Island Progressive Democrats of America on Friday, in a ceremony at City Park at 4 p.m.

“We at RIPDA are proud to endorse Gerald Carbone for Mayor of Warwick,” said Progressive Democrats spokesman Grant Metts. “At RIPDA, we endorse candidates whose approach to government reflects our progressive values, and Gerald is no exception. He spoke about his frustrations with the insider, machine-run politics that characterizes so much of the RI Democratic party and he shares our desire to bring the party’s policy priorities back into sync with the working class, people-first values that Democrats are supposed to stand for and that most RI Democratic voters believe in.”

Carbone, a former journalist, and chairman of the Warwick Public Library Board of Trustees, is making his first run at public office.

“Here at City Park I want to turn that axiom around and observe: All politics is global. Federal policy affects what we are able to do on the local level, and what we do here affects our environment on a larger scale,” Carbone said.

“Under current projections, sea level rise will dramatically affect Warwick within a generation, causing frequent floods in Conimicut, erosion at the Gaspee Plat, and destruction of marshes here in Buttonwoods,” he continued.

“The health of our ecosystem and the health of our children depends upon responsible energy use to reduce our emission of heat trapping gases, and planning ahead for sea level rise. When I am mayor I will join the Climate Mayors Network, a peer to peer network willing to demonstrate leadership on climate change.”

Congratulations to Mr. Carbone for receiving the endorsement from the Progressive Democrats. I. for one, was never interviewed. I don't believe that the other candidates were either. I would have thought that, in order to be thorough, they would have interviewed all candidates but that is their choice. In either event I agree with Mr. Carbone about the "insider, machine-run politics" Regardless as to who wins, the political insider politics must be re-written to represent "the 80,000 taxpayers that are paying the tab".

Happy Summer Mr. Carbone and the Progressive Democrats.

    Happy Summer everyone.

Rick, the reason the Progressive Democrats didn't interview you (or endorse you) is because they're smart enough to know even a blank piece of paper is more qualified to be mayor than you are!

Why didn't you respond to any posts with proof of your car tax delinquency? You pathetic coward! Don't worry Rick, you'll have to answer questions for it sooner or later. By the way, big spending last quarter ($0). Still trying to claim you're commited? You tax delinquent fraud!

Scal, they rejected the make-believe mayor because, as he has proven all by himself, his campaign was a fraud and they could see it from miles away.

He has continued his pathetic behavior and as a result will find himself a loser yet again.

Please Scal, do not insult a blank piece of paper with master mayer. Just think of all the useful things a blank piece of paper can provide compared to an empty dress shirt that is not tucked in.

    Mr. Corrente,

Respectfully....you didn't get interviewed because you are irrelevant in this mayoral race.

PaulHuff, you don't need to be respectful to the make-believe mayor. You can say he's a liar and a fraud, which is why he's irrelevant in this race.

He has certainly shown no respect toward the factual information about his tax delinquency and the many defects in his candidacy.

Not to mention, he's remained totally consistent with the behavior that led the Progressive Democrats to reject him in 2016 -- they were right to spare themselves any effort beyond reading the many comments on this site that proved (and continue to prove) his total unfitness for office.

All his whining proves is that he thinks he deserves respect simply for filing candidacy papers and using someone else's website for free political advertising.

He doesn't deserve respect, though. He deserves what he will get om Sept. 12 -- an overwhelming loss.

Did the Rhode Island Progressive Democrats of America interview any other candidates? I would be interested in knowing if this is a fact or just another speculation on RC's part

Cat, here's the message that RIPDA posted on their Facebook page on July 5:

"Are you a candidate looking for an endorsement? Please email a request for an endorsement questionnaire and interview to endorsements@riprogressivedems.com stating your name, position being sought and let's get a dialogue started."

So, in order to be considered for an endorsement, a candidate needed to contact the organization -- not sit around expecting them to contact him and then complaining about not getting an endorsement, which is what it looks like the make-believe mayor did.

And as I stated earlier, this is the same group who denied an endorsement of the make-believe mayor after witnessing his pathetic attempts to lie to them in 2016.

Then-state coordinator Sam Bell called the make-believe mayor's claims "an embarrassment, and I want the folks in Warwick to know that. Warwick needs a better Democrat running for mayor,” with Jennifer Siciliano, the Warwick Progressive Democrats Coordinator, saying “I’ve seen conservative Democrats but not this far conservative,” she added. “I think it's beyond conservative.”

Needless to say, RIPDA didn't need another look at the make-believe mayor, even if he did actually put the effort into seeking their endorsement.
