Caster's to match bike donations with needy children

One of the most popular gifts that many children receive during the holidays is a new bicycle. Unfortunately, for many families who have been hit hard by the recession, purchasing a new bike to give as a gift is out of reach. In response, Caster’s Bicycles has announced its “Something Used for Something New” bike drive to benefit children of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence.

Between now and Dec. 23, visit either of Caster’s two locations in Providence and Warwick to donate a gently used kid’s bike to help the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence and receive 10% off the purchase of a new children’s bike. All donated bikes must be in decent riding condition in order to pass on to others.

“As a third generation family business, we have always strived to be involved with the community and give back whenever possible,” said Mindy Caster. “We are really excited about this donation program and the opportunity to provide bicycles to children who otherwise may go without. When we were growing up, we were always on our bikes. If kids have a bike, they’ll use it, I truly believe that.”

Once all of the donated bikes are collected, Caster’s will inspect each one and perform routine maintenance to ensure that the bicycles are safe for their new homes. For those who may not be looking to purchase a new bike but are interested in making the holidays brighter for a child in-need, Caster’s will gladly accept your donated bicycle.

“Many of the children that are members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence come from economically-disadvantaged households,” said Nicole Dufresne, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence. “The generosity of Caster’s, along with the community, is a great example of what can be accomplished when people come together to help others.”

Caster’s is located at 3480 Post Road in Warwick, and at 212 Fourth Street in Providence. For more information, please visit or call (401) 274-5300 to reach the Providence store, and (401) 739-0393 to reach the Warwick location.
