The Community College of Rhode Island was named the nation’s “2-Year College of the Year” by Education Dive: Higher Ed, a leading industry news publisher.

The 2019 Dive Awards recognize the industry’s top disruptors and innovators who are transforming higher education. Winners were chosen by the editors of Education Dive based on thorough and independent research, reporting, and analysis.

“Being recognized as ‘2-Year College of the Year’ is a tremendous honor and recognizes the transformative work the college has undertaken to catalyze student success and achievement,” CCRI President Meghan Hughes said. “Such a recognition is only possible with the support and commitment of our faculty and staff who are driving this work and who believe in our students.”

“The people and organizations that win the Dive Awards are trailblazers and leaders in their markets,” said Davide Savenije, editor-in-chief of Education Dive’s publisher Industry Dive. “Their achievements in 2019 are shaping the future of where the latest strategies and trends are going.”

“Over the last nearly four years, we have launched a collection of high-impact and evidence-based practices to enhance student success and completion. While it is still early days in this work, we are seeing real progress with meaningful impact on the overall success of our students and college, most visible through our improvements in our two and three-year graduation rates and our increased enrollment,” Hughes added. “The improvements we have seen in just a few short years – especially in our two-year graduation rate – are rarely achieved in the community college space. We are challenging what many think is possible of community colleges and community college students, and our students are transforming what people think about CCRI.”

CCRI is at the forefront of improving the ways community college students are prepared to advance their education and careers. This May, the college achieved its highest two- and three-year graduation rates in more than 20 years and awarded more credentials than ever before. The college expects to have the highest three-year graduation rate of any community college in New England by 2021.
