The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to The Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Newport for a game on Tuesday evening. The Lady Knights lost to the Midshipwomen Candidates from NAPS 58-24. With the loss CCRI falls to 4-14 on the season.

The Lady Knights traveled to the Naval Station in Newport to play the Naval Academy Prep School on Tuesday evening in a rematch of their game at CCRI on December 10th that saw the Midshipwomen Candidates prevail 67-44. CCRI knew it would be a tougher contest on this day because it was on the NAPS’ home court and the Lady Knights only had six available players for the game. CCRI struggled to get any consistent offense going on Tuesday.

After one quarter the Lady Knights trailed 15-4. CCRI got a little spark in the second quarter as they scored nine points led by co-captain Nicole Chamberlain (West Warwick) who scored six points on two three-pointers. In addition, the Lady Knights held NAPS to just six points which sent both teams into the halftime break with CCRI trailing 21-13.

In the third quarter the Lady Knights’ offense sputtered again only managing two points while Navy Prep erupted for 20 points to take a 41-15 lead into the final quarter. Once again CCRI was able to put nine points on the board in the fourth quarter as they did in the second quarter. In the fourth quarter the Lady Knights were led by co-captain Jazlynn DiZoglio (Providence) who scored four points. However NAPS countered with 17 points to cruise to the 58-24 victory on their home court.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was DiZoglio with a team-high nine points including a three-pointer with six steals and a rebound. Chamberlain scored seven points including two 3-pointers with two steals and an assist. Freshman Ireauna Pegus (Middletown), playing just down the street from her hometown added five points and 10 rebounds and a steal. Co-Captain Faith Fahnbulleh (Providence) ripped down 10 rebounds for the third game in a row while adding two steals and an assist.

The next game for the Lady Knights will be Thursday the 16th at 5 p.m. when they travel to Sullivan Community College in Loch Sheldrake, NY.
