Changes coming in Greenville Ave. sewer project

Posted

The Narragansett Bay Commission (NBC) has had a couple of productive weeks for their Greenville Avenue sewer and water line extension project. The water line has been completed from the pump station up to about 300 feet east of Pine Hill Road.

According to Jamie Samons, public affairs manager for NBC, in the next week or so Providence Water will test and flush that line and then proceed with individual hook ups. Beginning this week, one crew is continuing about 300 feet east of Pine Hill Road heading west. A second crew will begin at #660 Greenville and head east on Greenville. These crews are heading towards each other installing water lines as they go.

This change will again be a challenge for traffic. Residents from Smokey Drive and Janet Drive will be affected, as will the neighbors in between. A police detail will be posted on Brown Ave., Poppy Hill, Pine Hill and Atwood Ave.

Heading north on Atwood, motorists will be able to drive east on Greenville but not westbound. Motorists coming from Pine Hill can head east on Greenville towards Atwood Ave., but not west.

To date, NBC has laid 6,500 linear feet of 16-inch water pipe, 1,620 linear feet of sewer pipe, and installed seven hydrants and seven manholes. While there was no work last Saturday because of the thunderstorms, the weather looks on track for another productive week this week.
