Hawks fly to Class A crown

The Bishop Hendricken outdoor track and field team continued to dominate the state by taking its 44th Class A Championship this past weekend in Coventry, which is the final major competition before the state championship at Brown. The Hawks finished with 191 points, while second-place La Salle had 85.

Here is a look at some of the local results on both the boys and girls side: BOYS

Bishop Hendricken’s Jack McMahon took first place in the 3,000 meter run, while teammate Sean Fagan won the 110 meter hurdles, as well as the 300 hurdles.

The Hendricken team of Russell White, Nic Comella, Tom Comella and James Gobewole then took first in the 400 relay. Hendricken’s team of Matt Rene, Ian Hopkins, Josiah Johnson and Nick Capalbo also won the 3,200 relay. Seun Filaoye later took first in the triple jump for the Hawks.

White finished third in the 100 dash while Tom Comella took fourth, and Nic Comella seventh and Gobewole eighth.

Tom Comella finished fifth in the 200 dash, while White took sixth, and Nic Comella seventh.

Pilgrim’s Justin Dorsey finished fourth in the 400 dash, while Hendricken’s Dylan Murray took eighth.

Hendricken’s David DelBonis finished fifth in the 800 run, while Toll Gate’s Cole Baker took 10th. DelBonis also took second in the 1,500 run, while teammate Evan Reynolds took sixth, Pilgrim’s Tyler Robbio eighth, and Hendricken’s Matt St. Jean 10th.

Hendricken’s Aidan Tierney placed third in the 3,000 run, while teammates Luke Henseler took fourth, Reynolds sixth, Jonathan Iamarone seventh and Nick Braz eighth. Hendricken’s Duwaun Edwards also took second in the 110 hurdles, followed by Filaoye in third and Ahnyia Phrasathane-Estacio fifth.

Cooper Dean took home a fifth-place finish in the 300 hurdles for the Hawks, while Phrasathane-Estacio placed sixth, and Edwards ninth.

The Hendricken team of Fagan, Capalbo, Johnson and Kobby Harvey-Ewusi took second in the 1,600 relay, while Toll Gate’s Baker, Michael Murphy, Elijah Aguilar and Andrew St. Laurent took fourth.

Hendricken got a third-place finish from John Santos in the high jump, while teammate Teighan Jeremy took fourth.

Toll Gate’s Justin Perreault took second in the pole vault, while Aguilar finished fourth. Hendricken’s Matt Froehlich took fifth and Thomas Wilkins sixth, while Matt Maroney finished eighth.

Hendricken’s Troy Moore finished sixth in the long jump for Hendricken, while teammate Amuchin Timbo finished in seventh. Timbo also took second in the triple jump, while teammate Jordan Robbins took fourth.

Max Paolino finished second in the shot put, followed by teammate Cameron Hughes in fifth, and Dante Caouette sixth.

Caouette also placed second in the discuss, followed by Hughes in third. Pilgrim’s Kevin Navas took fourth place, while Paolino placed seventh, and Toll Gate’s Brandon Rios ninth.

Ryan Morel finished second in the hammer throw for the Hawks, while Jake Picard took fifth and Shon Cuthill ninth.

Nick Coffey finished second in the javelin for the Hawks, while Samuel Toth finished fourth for Pilgrim. GIRLS

Toll Gate’s Natalie Aloisio took third in the 400 dash and ninth in the 200 dash. Pilgrim’s Ava McCann then took eighth in the 1,500 run.

Pilgrim’s Emmanuelle Degos finished eighth in the 3,000 run, while teammate Elise Vanluinen took ninth in the 300 hurdles.

Pilgrim’s team of Madison Hemond, Hailey Fera, Sarah Lynch and Alanna Coffie took second in the 1,600 relay and seventh in the 400 relay.

Pilgrim’s Degos, Jamee Salisbury, Ava McCann and Sofia McCann later finished fifth in the 3,200 relay. Toll Gate’s Isabella Senerchia, Brooke Menard and Camille Remillard finished eighth.

Toll Gate’s Ella Grace Allen tied for ninth in the pole vault, while Pilgrim’s Coffie took sixth in the long jump, followed by teammate Anna Cetera in seventh and Lynch in eighth. Cetera also took ninth in the triple jump.

Toll Gate’s Samantha Larrivee took fifth in the discus, while teammate Voski Armenakyan took second in the hammer. Pilgrim’s Janelle Mixner took seventh in the javelin while teammate Emma Corcoran placed ninth.
