Sign up for one of two U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary courses starting February 24. The power boat course, boating skills and seamanship runs from 7-9:15 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and ends April 6 – in time for you to get your boat in the water for a great summer. There is a discount for other family members sharing materials. The course is held at the East Greenwich Police Station. It covers jet skis, boat handling, rules of the road, aids to navigation, beginning navigation, lines and knots, federal and state regulations, electronic navigation and more. The navigation course takes navigation from the beginning, right up to celestial navigation and runs Mondays and Thursdays 7-9:30 p.m. for 18 weeks. It includes latitude and longitude, distance, direction, plotting a course, currents, set and drift, bearings, dead reckoning, line of position, etc. This course is held at the Coast Guard Auxiliary building at Brewers Safe Harbor Marina, 1 Masthead Dr., Warwick.
Both courses offer hands-on learning and individual attention. For information or to register, email roz@butziger.com or go to www.northstarflotilla.com.
