The College Crusade of Rhode Island has announced the start of its fall 2018 schedule, which features dozens of programs designed to prepare students in Rhode Island’s low-income communities for educational success.

In a ten-week Critical Thinking & Writing Workshop based at Providence College, students engage in critical thinking, large- and small-group discussions, and individual writing about the media. In Saturday Math Academy, students build math skills that complement their classroom learning. In Cru Club, students meet afterschool and on Saturdays for a variety of enrichment activities, including mentoring, homework help, financial literacy, science and engineering workshops, life-skills workshops, book clubs, career speakers, and service learning.

A highlight for middle school students is the popular 10-week Crusade Adventure & Academic Program (CAAP), which develops skills in leadership, problem solving, team building, and healthy risk taking. Special opportunities for high school students include a robotics workshop at Brown University that culminates in the statewide FIRST Tech Challenge competition, and dual enrollment classes at the Community College of Rhode Island that allow students to earn college credits. Throughout the fall, College Crusade students will also tour the campuses of Bentley University, Brandeis University, Bridgewater State University, Providence College, Stonehill College, University of Rhode Island, and Wheaton College.

In addition to helping middle school and high school students prepare for higher education, The College Crusade also offers support for students who are just starting college this fall. Welcome events and monthly advisories held on campus at Rhode Island College, University of Rhode Island, and Community College of Rhode Island focus on connecting college students to resources and supports that ensure their long-term postsecondary success.

The mission of The College Crusade is to increase high school graduation, college and career readiness, and college completion for youth in Rhode Island’s low-income communities. For more information visit www.thecollegecrusade.org.
