Once again, Pilgrim alum Devin Ramos had to do a little bit of everything for the Becker men’s soccer team this fall, playing in the forward line for the Hawks while also donning the goalkeeping gloves on a pair of occasions at the end of the season.

When he was stationed in between the sticks, the former Patriot faced a bombardment of shots, recording 20 saves as he attempted to keep the opposition attack at bay.

The senior utility man began his goalkeeping farewell tour in his final home match in Becker colors, playing the entire second half of the team’s 1-0 defeat to Mitchell on Oct. 24.

Unfortunately for Ramos, the only goal of the day came on his watch, as the Mariners’ Christian Urena finished his run through the Hawk defense by depositing the ball past him in the 57th minute.

The finale for Ramos came three days later when Becker visited New England College, and the Pilgrims emerged with a 5-1 victory that could have been worse if not for the 11 saves he notched in nearly 71 minutes of action.

Prior to his netminding coda, he played the bulk of the campaign as an outfield player, mainly in the attack for the Hawks, recording seven shots and an assist.

Ramos’s helper came in Becker’s season opener on September 1, when he set up Isiah McCaskill in the 87th minute of the Hawks’ 2-1 defeat to Husson.

The setback kicked off a campaign in which Becker finished with a 2-13-2 overall mark, marking the eighth consecutive season for the Hawks where they will finish with a losing record. As a freshman member of the Castleton football team, playing time has been hard to come by for Pilgrim graduate Kyle Ford, but the ex-Patriot has been able to make an impact for the Spartans.

In the three games that he has played in this season, the defensive back has picked up six tackles, all coming in the team’s October 13 contest versus Gallaudet, a 35-25 victory in favor of the host Bison.

Ford also managed to get on the stat sheet the previous week with a pass break-up in the final quarter of Castleton’s meeting with Anna Maria, which ended with the Amcats clawing back a 17-0 deficit to eventually emerge with a 31-24 triumph.

The Spartans are currently 1-8 on the year, with their only victory of the season to date coming on September 8 as they dealt Fitchburg State a 34-13 setback.

Castleton have one more opportunity to pick up a second win in 2018, as they wrap up the campaign this Saturday on home turf against Alfred State, who entered the win column for the first time this season themselves last Saturday with a 30-28 upending of Anna Maria.
