Combined symphonies

In an ambitious undertaking that produced a remarkable performance the Warwick Symphony Orchestra, the University of Rhode Island Symphony and combined choirs of URI presented Felix Mendelssohn’s oratorio “Elijah” Sunday night at St. Timothy Church. Having provided over 50 years of accessible public performances, the 60-member regional volunteer ensemble, the Warwick Symphony Orchestra brings classical and orchestral pops performances to communities across Rhode Island. The WSO works to provide a supportive learning and performance environment where all its members can grow musically while serving the community through live performance. Catherine Gagnon, music director for the WSO, was the conductor assisted by Ann Danis, conductor of the URI Symphony. The combined symphonies and choirs also performed “Elijah” Saturday, Dec. 1 at the URI Fine Arts Center. (Warwick Beacon photos)
