Committees to study future for Potowomut, Rhodes schools
Mayor Scott Avedisian has announced the creation of, by executive order, two separate committees to study the re-use of the Potowomut and Christopher Rhodes elementary school facilities and make recommendations to the administration.
Executive Order 2012-03 creates “The Study Committee for the Reuse of Potowomut Elementary School” and “The Study Committee for the Reuse of Christopher Rhodes Elementary School.”
Each committee will consist of the City Council representative from the ward in which the building is located; the Planning Board Chairman or his designee; the Director of the Department of City Planning or his designee; the Director of the Department of Public Works or his designee; two members of the general public, to be appointed by the mayor; a member of the general public to be appointed by the City Council president; a member experienced in real estate development; and the president of the neighborhood association in which the building is located, or his/her designee.
“The membership of these committees is meant to ensure that we have a comprehensive, diverse approach and that the interests of a variety of groups are represented in this process,” Avedisian said. “It’s important for the well-being of the city and the benefit of the neighborhoods surrounding these properties that these facilities be re-purposed in the most beneficial way.”
