Neighbors of Salter Grove, a beautiful bayside park in the Gaspee neighborhood, are working this summer to keep the park clean, and planning to celebrate their achievements with a community potluck-BBQ-picnic on July 15.

The clean-ups, sponsored by the City of Warwick and Save the Bay, will be held on Thursdays, July 13 and August 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Visit www.savebay.org/volunteer to sign up.

The celebration, sponsored by Friends of Salter Grove, will be held

Saturday, July 15, from 4 p.m. until sunset (rain date August 5). Neighbors are invited to bring a favorite dish to the potluck-BBQ-picnic. Grills will be available. Post your dish online at to guarantee the ultimate bayside smorgasbord.

Activities will include face painting by Marc Kohler (also a Gaspee historian), frisbees, horseshoes and bocce, and a lucky draw.

Attendees are encouraged to bring bubble makers, beach balls, and help organize games. Bring sunscreen, bug spray, and plenty of liquid refreshments to ensure a comfortable stay.

The Warwick Parks & Recreation Department will provide extra picnic tables near the playground. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets if you prefer, to enjoy the park from any vantage point.
