SHOPLIFTING

On July 30 at approximately 7:24 p.m., Officer Ben Bratko was dispatched to the Bald Hill Road Macy’s for a report of shoplifting.

At the store he met with a loss prevention associate, who stated that she had a female suspect in custody. The woman, later identified as Ashley Mikaelian, 26, of 87 Pleasant Street in Rehoboth, allegedly entered the store with an empty backpack, and selected various items of clothing from the racks. She then reportedly entered a fitting room for a brief period, and exited with what appeared to be a full backpack.

A check of the fitting room revealed only two of the many items that were taken in. Mikaelian then passed all points of sale without making a purchase. She was then detained, and a total of $120.50 worth of merchandise was recovered.

Mikaelian was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. During a search of her belongings, 11.9 grams of marijuana was found. Mikaelian stated she had a medical marijuana card, but was unable to produce it. She was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

POSSESSION

While on routine patrol in the area of Motel 6 and 20 Jefferson Boulevard on July 30 around 8:28 p.m., Officer Thomas Greene observed a vehicle parked behind the front building that appeared suspicious. The car was occupied by three individuals, the headlights were turned off, the windows were cracked and the car was backed into a parking spot. According to his report, Officer Greene conducted a check on the car due to a high level of crime in the area.

Officer Greene then made contact with the occupants, and while talking with them Rhode Island State Trooper McNulty also arrived on scene to assist. The occupants stated that they were waiting for a friend named Joel who was staying at the hotel, and they were waiting to take him to another hotel as he was no longer staying at Motel 6.

Background checks were performed on the occupants, and an active warrant from the Pawtucket Police Department for simple assault and domestic disorderly conduct was found for Christopher Graves, 41, of 40 Fortin Avenue Apt. 1 in Pawtucket. He was then taken into custody and transported to police headquarters.

At the station, Graves was searched and a small bag containing a white crystalized powder was found on his person. The substance later tested positive for amphetamines and methamphetamines. Graves was charged with felony possession of a schedule I-V drug and for the outstanding warrant. He was then held for the next session of court.

LARCENY

On July 31 at approximately 8:05 a.m., Officer Joseph DeDonato responded to a Lakecrest Drive residence in reference to a larceny from a vehicle during overnight hours.

At the scene the officer met with the victim, who stated that some time between 8:30 p.m. on July 30 and 8 a.m. on July 31, someone entered his unsecured GMC SUV in his driveway. When he returned to his vehicle, he observed the driver’s side door was wide open, as was the sun roof.

The man advised that he was missing his wallet, which included $40 cash, a key to another vehicle, license, assorted credit and membership cards, and healthcare cards. He was advised to contact his credit card companies and bank to see if his information had been used and to cancel the accounts. There are no suspects or witnesses, and a report was forwarded to department detectives for review.

STOLEN TIRES

At approximately noon on August 3, Officer Rose Michel was dispatched to the Post Road Radisson Hotel for a report of tires stolen from a vehicle that was parked in the rear long-term parking lot.

Upon arrival, Officer Michel observed that Detective Higgins was also on the scene. Both approached the vehicle and found that all four tires and rims were missing while the lug nuts were left behind. Michel spoke with the reporting party, who identified himself as a hotel manager. He stated that he noticed the rims were missing at approximately 11:30 a.m. The vehicle owner was currently on an out of state trip, and a voice message was left for him informing him of the incident.

VANDALISM

On August 2 at approximately 3:29 p.m. Officer Thomas Greene was dispatched to a Helen Avenue address for a report of malicious damage. Prior to the officer’s arrival on scene, dispatch had advised that a tire appeared to have been slashed.

Once on scene the officer met with the reporting party, who indicated that the tire on her vehicle had been slashed sometime overnight. Officer Greene observed the puncture, which appeared consistent with a knife stabbing it.

The vehicle had been parked on the complainant’s property at the time of the incident. She also stated that she had no issues with neighbors or any other individuals. At the time of the report, there were no suspects or witnesses. The report was then forwarded to department detectives for review.

She stated that she realized that her wallet was missing the next morning when she went to look for it. She made a call to the restaurant however no one answered.

The card was not taken from the wallet, but the information had been used to complete a transaction in Florida.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

On August 4 at approximately 1:39 a.m., Officer David Boardman was on routine patrol with Officer Thomas Greene traveling west on Airport Road when they observed a black Kia Optima traveling south at 54 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.

The vehicle was then followed by the officers for further observation. It then failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Airport Road and Warwick Avenue, taking a right onto Warwick Avenue without coming to a complete stop. The vehicle was then observed swerving from the right lane into the left in an unsafe manner, at which time a traffic stop was initiated.

Contact was then made with Michael Constant, 30, of 167 Pheasant Road in Cranston. While speaking with Constant, officers detected the smell of alcohol and signs of intoxication. When asked for his license, Constant provided a Patriots debit or credit card. He was unable to provide registration for the rental car, and neither he nor his passenger knew where the rental agreement was.

Constant stated he was coming from Grid Iron and that he had a couple of beers. He was asked to step from the vehicle and agreed to partake in standardized sobriety tests. He also consented to take a preliminary breathalyzer test, which produced a .101 percent blood alcohol reading.

Based upon the officers’ experience and training, it was determined that Constant was unfit to operate a motor vehicle safely. He was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. At the station, he agreed to take a chemical breathalyzer test, which produced a blood alcohol reading of .094 and .088 percent.

He was charged with driving under the influence first offense, speeding, laned roadway violations, and obedience to traffic control devices. He was later released.
