Crooner Nicolas King brings his soothing tones to Ocean State Theatre
Ocean State Theatre Company (OSTC), currently celebrating its first full season in its new state-of-the-art theatre in Warwick, is pleased to present Rhode Island’s own Nicolas King in concert for a one-night-only event on Sunday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m.
“We are thrilled that Nicolas is available to present his concert at Ocean State Theatre,” said Producing Artistic Amiee Turner. “We were introduced to him by Eva Franchi at the 19th Annual Sergio Franchi Memorial Concert last summer. It was a truly festive, elegant event, which showcased some amazingly talented vocalists, including Nicolas. His Mel Tormé, Bobby Darin-like approach to music will be very appealing to our audience members.”
Recently seen on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, King has been performing and wowing crowds all over the country since he was four years old. He appeared in three different productions on Broadway including “Beauty and the Beast,” “A Thousand Clowns” with Tom Selleck and Carol Burnett’s “Hollywood Arms” (directed by Hal Prince) before the age of 12. King has also appeared in over a dozen national television commercials, including his award-winning “Oscar Mayer Lunchables” commercial, and performed on many talk shows including “The View,” “The Today Show,” “Sally Jesse Raphael” and “The Tonight Show.” He has performed on the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon for eight consecutive years, at the “Cabaret Convention” at Lincoln Center for five years, and originated the voice of “Oscar” for Discovery Kids’ “Kenny The Shark.”
King is the recipient of the 1995 Talent America Award, 2010 Julie Wilson Award, and New York’s coveted Bistro Award in 2012 for Outstanding Performer of the Year. He has performed alongside his mentor, the legendary Liza Minnelli, since he was 11 years old as her opening act, touring across the country from New York to Las Vegas. Mr. King has been honored to have performed on many iconic stages including Birdland, Feinstein’s at Loews Regency, New York’s Palace Theatre, Don’t Tell Mama, The Iridium, The Metropolitan Room, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Lincoln Center, the Royal Room in Palm Beach, Fla., The Friars Club and many others.
“I’m very excited to perform at Ocean State Theatre. The acoustics are excellent and it feels very personal,” said King. “I’m also thrilled to have the opportunity to perform with the incomparable Mike Renzi. Although we are both born and bred Rhode Islanders, we hardly ever perform locally. Since Mike is currently touring with Tony Bennett and I’m in New York most of the time, this marks the first concert we will have performed together in the southern New England area in over three years. We’ll be doing an old New York Supper Club style show, with songs like “Our Love Is Here To Stay,” “What Kind Of Fool Am I?” and a tribute to Mel Tormé. We’ll also be doing some songs from my album “Nineteen,” which I did with Mike.”
The proceeds from Nicolas King’s appearance will benefit Ocean State Theatre Company’s Live Music Initiative, which was established in 2008 in order to support the tradition of professional musicians playing live during all musical theatre performances.
Nicolas King will be at Ocean State Theatre on Sunday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. The theatre is located at 1245 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick, RI. All tickets are $35 and are on sale at the box office Monday through Friday from 12 noon – 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 12 noon – 4 p.m. Tickets are also available online 24 hours a day at www.
