Old man weather hasn’t been kind to the Johnston Street Machines.
The fundraising event Cruizin’ for a Cause that’s held every Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Denny’s Restaurant parking lot off Route 6 has been rained out a record five times this season.
“We’ll try again this week,” said Gary Maddocks, the JSM President. “The weather is something you can’t control.”
So tonight, Richard George – DJ the Car Guy – will set up his mobile music machine and beginning playing oldies and doo-wop dating back to the 1950s and Maddocks and officials like Anthony Ferrante and Gina Sabitoni-Arekelian are hoping for a record turnout that will boost the JSM’s Charity of the Month total.
Admission is free for spectators, who can help the designated charity – The Make a Wish Foundation of RI and Massachusetts –by purchasing 50/50 raffle tickets. Vintage vehicle and classic car owners only pay $5 and 100 percent of that donation goes to the charity.
