Cut up principal

When the word got out that a pair of magicians would cut Sherman School Principal Michelle Paton in half and put her back again, ticket sales for the show were so brisk that two shows had to be scheduled Friday night at the school. Derek Whitneck and Justin Mazz of Connecticut staged the 45-minute show with a variety of magic tricks that included kids from the audience and, naturally, the principal who was loudly cheered for her role by students and parents. School cultural arts coordinator Jessica Schad arranged for the show whereby the school and the magicians split the proceeds of $5 ticket sales with no minimum obligation on part of the school. Pizza and baked goodies, which parents served up in the school all-purpose room preceded the show. Here Derek and “The Mazz” prepare to saw up the principal – they ended up using an electric saw; students Owen Reilly and Lucas Johnson enjoy the pre-show pizza and a student checks out a ring to verify that there’s nothing tricky about it – of course, Derek proved otherwise.
