To the Editor:

A week or so ago my wife received a letter from Progressive Democrat Gerald Carbone, a Warwick mayoral candidate.

After she read it she asked if I would care to. I must say it was one of the strangest letters I have ever read from a political candidate. While I am certainly happy he overcame his suffering, it escapes me why he felt the need to share such personal history.

May I proffer that I feel very strongly that after 70-plus years I have never ever been so afraid (yes, afraid) for my children and grandchildren of the progressive Democrats, a.k.a. the Democratic Socialists led by the man married in the U.S.S.R. To my friends and acquaintances in Warwick, I sincerely urge you to reject the politics of Mr. Carbone, Ms. Calkin, Mr. Regunberg, et-al.

To those who may require their memories refreshed, the U.S.S.R. was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics now relegated (thank God) to the ash heap of history.

Socialism in the 20th century was responsible for the deaths of 100 million people. The fear I alluded to earlier is that this one-party state of ours will fall for this socialist message.

Please, my friends, I ask you again to resoundingly reject this morbid political philosophy whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head.

It's a shame that you're allowing yourself to be frightened of a word without having a clear understanding of it. Democratic Sociailsts have about as much in common with the leadership of the former U.S.S.R. as Republicans have in common with the leadership of the People's REPUBLIC of China. From Wikipedia:

"Democratic socialism is a political philosophy that advocates achieving socialist goals within a democratic system as opposed to what it perceives as undemocratic socialist ideologies such as Marxist–Leninist-inspired socialism which is viewed as being non-democratic in practice. Democratic socialists oppose the Soviet economic model, rejecting the authoritarian form of governance and highly centralized command economy that took form in the Soviet Union in the early 20th century."

Please take the time to educate yourself further before engaging in more fear-mongering. Ignorance is more dangerous than any political philosophy will ever be.Thank you.

Spartacus...friend of Commie Corrie Booker? Anyway, nice try to deflect from being associated with the USSR brand of communism/socialism. Just because your candidates have watered down THAT brand of evil doesn't make it not stink. The level of taxation that Regunberg needs to achieve his utopia is enough to turn anyone from socialism. And that $15 minimum wage? How does that work? It's a magic number. Will it be $20 in a few years? Who knows? That's the problem with government interjecting into the free market. People were not meant to live good lives on 'minimum wage'. I've worked two jobs for most of my life. You can also.
