Dog abandoned at Warwick Animal Shelter

This past Monday morning, October 28 the staff at the Warwick Animal Shelter found an abandoned dog tied to their fence. The female silver/blue and white pit bull was left at around 1:30 in the morning, with her chain-style leash tied to a fence pole. She was wearing a pink collar with a bone design on it and a bandanna. There was also a bowl and some food. A photo of the vehicle was also captured leaving the scene, which looks to be a late model white or light colored sedan.

This type of situation can be dangerous for the dog as well as the shelter staff because they have to approach a dog that they know nothing about. They also do not have any history on the dog or veterinary records. There was no nametag or micro-chip found. The staff is guessing her age to be around five years old and she is not spayed. Overall she seems to be a friendly dog but without any further information the staff couldn't elaborate.

"If you are thinking about turning in an animal, please call the shelter and talk to us," Warwick Animal Shelter Director Ann Corvin said. "We will discuss the situation with your pet and if we can't help, we will provide them with other options…People sometimes don't want to let us know about a dog's behavioral issues but these are the things we need to know."

The shelter staff is currently hoping that someone will come forward with information about the dog or recognize her from the photos. If you or anyone you know can provide information please call the shelter directly at 401-468-4377 or email

At this point the dog is in a seven-day holding period, and if no one comes forward then she will become available for adoption. Corvin is staying hopeful that someone knows or recognizes the dog and contacts the shelter. Corvin said, "Best hope is that someone knows who owns the dog and comes forward."

The shelter is located at 101 Arthur W Devine Blvd. Warwick, RI. If no one does come forward and you are interested in adopting this beautiful girl, please contact the shelter directly.
