Donna Travis deserves a statue

To the Editor:

I recently read the article about the Ethics Commission fining Donna Travis over her involvement with three charity-type organizations that she donates hundreds of hours of her time to and receives no money from.

Got that? She doesn’t receive a nickel and they fined her. Are you kidding me? The Ethics Commission should be ashamed of themselves. And if she should get fined for that act of kindness what should happen to her for:

> 45 years as a child abuse advocate

> 40 years assisting the elderly through J.O.N.A.H.

> 30 years of planning annual Easter egg hunts

> 20 years of organizing the National Night Out

> Citizen Police since the 1990’s

> 30 years working with Volunteers of Warwick Schools (VOWS)

> 20 years with and a charter member of the Warwick Lions

> 30 years making holiday gift/toy baskets at Christmas time

> 10 years working on the Memorial Day Parade

> 40 years organizing the Fourth of July fireworks

> Taught CCD classes at St. Rita’s for 16 years

> 20 years organizing the Carnival through JONAH at Oakland Beach

> 6 years as a Girl Scout leader

> 30 years Oakland Beach Crime watch (and she started the Norwood Crime Watch)

> 27 years Oakland Beach Festival

> 20 years sits on the board of the Cadets Explorer program

She has worked on hundreds of charities, belongs to over 20 volunteer groups and is the most endeared member of the Warwick City Council, and the Ethics Commission said what? They obviously don’t consider what Donna looks like to Him, and “Him” is probably just as disgusted and angry with this outcome as the rest of Warwick must be. Donna Travis does not deserve a fine. She deserves a statue. She and her husband Bill have done more for Oakland Beach than everyone else put together. Fining her is like fining that pilot “Sully” for killing some geese when he was emergency-landing his plane into the Hudson River saving the lives of 155 people. I am disgusted with these actions. You should be too.

Sorry, Donna. You deserve much, much more respect than this, and, if anyone disagrees, they can take it up with me. Just remember, He is watching.

DUMBNESS AND DUMBER. The pair of dunces is incomprehensible.

What this letter fails to recognize is the following quote from Councilwoman Travis from the original article reporting on the fine by the Ethics Commission:

“I did it. I’ll face the music,” she said.

Allow me to repeat that phrase, attributed to Councilwoman Travis: “I did it. I’ll face the music.”

That direct quote can be found here: http://warwickonline.com/stories/ethics-commission-finds-travis-violated-law-issues-1200-fine,125039

Arguably, Councilwoman Travis's admission is much more consistent with her remarkable service to the community than this letter writer's attempts to substitute her statements with his own criticism of the Ethics Commission.

It is certainly not surprising that the writer of this letter, a failed candidate who uses this website to call himself "mayor" [which arguably makes this letter a political statement] would completely ignore an admission of fault and a willingness to show responsibility for one's actions. Regular readers and commenters on this site are well aware of the fake "mayor" and his antics, which include falsely claiming that Warwick lost thousands of businesses over a decade.

Until the letter writer shows that he will correct his past false statements, everything else he says should be disregarded.

    Dear CrickeeRaven,

You misunderstand...again. Donna acknowledged her actions. So did I. We just both feel that it doesn't deserve a $1,200 fine.

I do like that you applauded "her remarkable service to the community". She does deserve a lot of praise and respect, doesn't she.

As far as "falsely claiming that Warwick lost thousands of businesses over a decade", the number of lost businesses over the last ten years (4,666) that I reported, came from the R.I. Secretary of States records and the City of Warwick's records. Do you have any numbers that are more accurate than that? If so what are they and where did you get them from?

If not, then maybe you misunderstand...again.

Happy Summer CrickeeRaven, whoever you are

    Happy Summer everyone.

Yet again, the failed losing fake "mayor" refuses to acknowledge information that has been presented to him repeatedly in the past.

For readers interested in the objective falsehood of his statement about Warwick businesses, please read the following article: http://warwickpost.com/numbers-game-corrente-claims-of-lost-businesses-dont-add-up/

As the article proves, the failed fake "mayor" used numbers from two different and unrelated sources to form an erroneous comparison. The article also provides a proper comparison between numbers from the same sources, and shows, as is stated in the article: "An accurate comparison of the numbers available from the U.S. Census, the Rhode Island Secretary of State, and Warwick City Hall doesn’t support Corrente’s claim."

All of the information in the article is further supported by links to the original sources and documents embedded on the web page.

Until the fake "mayor" admits that he refuses to acknowledge the truth about his claims, everything else he says should be disregarded.

    Dear CrickeeRaven,

Let's use the numbers that even YOU can't deny. O.K CrickeeRaven?

Per the U.S. Census Bureau 5,800 people moved out of Warwick. Per the Warwick School Department our student population crashed from over 17,000 to under 9,000. Can we agree on those numbers CrickeeRaven?

Can we also agree that those numbers are...bad?

Can we also agree that those numbers aren't...fake.

Can we also agree that you have never possessed the courage to use your real name?

Finally, can we agree that your "CrickeeRaven" name is also... fake.

Happy Summer CrickeeRaven whoever you really are.

    Happy Summer everyone.

Alert readers will see the previous comment by the losing "fake" mayor to be a blatant deflection from the issue he, himself raised, and is refusing to address because it has been proven false.

Specifically, the failed fake "mayor" stated: "the number of lost businesses over the last ten years (4,666) that I reported, came from the R.I. Secretary of States records and the City of Warwick's records. Do you have any numbers that are more accurate than that? If so what are they and where did you get them from?"

Following that comment, I provided a link to an article that specifically and objectively proved this claim to be completely false. In reply, the failed losing fake "mayor" commented on the city's population -- not its business sector.

What this proves, yet again, is that the failed, losing, tax delinquent fake "mayor" does not care to engage in anything approaching an honest dialogue about his false claims. Instead, he repeats his bullying conduct toward other commenters on this site, which as he has been told time and again, allows pseudonyms to be used.

Until the losing failure of a former candidate and fake "mayor" shows the courage to directly answer for his falsehoods, everything else he says should be disregarded.

AND SOME QUOTES FROM PEOPLE ON THIS SITE OVER THE YEARS:

"I am particularly embarrassed at the fact that the president of the city council in the second largest city in the state never graduated from elementary school. It is an outrage as well as this individual has been behind on her property taxes since 2004, had to be embarrassed into paying her 2 year delinquent automobile taxes, and frankly, is unable to articulate a single paragraph of correct English. It is a complete embarrassment. How can any reasonable person think that the problems in this city, fiscal or otherwise, can be addressed when you basically have an uneducated moron as the council president, taking her orders from the mayor?"

"What's more embarrassing is the fact that people like Wilkinson, and Coluantuano who claim to be educated, also take their marching orders from the mayor and vote to keep this circus fool in the president seat. I hope that the new ward 7 Councilwoman Usler thinks long and hard about her vote for council president as if she makes the wrong move, she will certainly be held accountable."

"Council meetings are long, repetitive and often argumentative. Much of the meetings are spent going into detail at excruciating length under the guise of due diligence and saving the taxpayers’ money when the city administration, for the most part, has already provided the answers. Council business moves slowly and is frequently used for grandstanding or as a court of inquisition." It continues, "We mention this because it’s obvious that procedures need to change for the council to truly operate in the interests of the citizens."

"Warwick City Councilwoman Donna Travis has proposed legislation that would abolish our right to free speech in the City of Warwick by no longer permitting citizens the right to display a sign in city council chambers."

"Councilwoman Travis didn't pay taxes and now has a payment plan to catch up, suppresses the free speech of the citizens of Warwick and doesn't want to have information presented to help the council make financial decisions, seems like the perfect person to lead the Council. Sad."

"This woman has made a mockery of presiding over the city council of the second largest city in the State. Nepotism, a complete lack of understanding rules of procedure, the city Charter and book of ordinances should be enough to end her reign. Why has there been no news on the hiring of an auditor without a full council vote? What rules have changed since the Naylor fiasco at public works? I don't know if Mr. Ladouceur has the right stuff to lead but at this point Donald Duck would be an improvement."

    HerbTokerman

Donna Travis inhibits the democratic process, suppresses free speech and doesn't belong in public office never mind being the council president.

If you disagree with her point of view she just tries to change the rules to shut up the opposition rather than having a valid debate on the issues.

    Hello Thecaptain:

I admit that I was unaware of the extensive information about Councilwoman Travis you provide, and thank you for your time and effort in bringing it to light.

I would also like to not that one statement of yours struck me as a cogent and factual statement that can also be applied to the fake "mayor," making him and Councilwoman Travis two of a kind. With your indulgence, I repeat it below with minor edits:

"If you disagree with [the fake "mayor's"] point of view [he] just tries to change the rules to shut up the opposition rather than having a valid debate on the issues."

Frequent readers like you will no doubt recognize the truth behind this edited statement, as the failed losing fake "mayor" has, time and again, deflected blame from his own false comments by bullying other commenters for their use of pseudonyms. One example is in a prior comment on this page, in fact.

Perhaps you believe, as I do, that the fake "mayor" is more concerned with bullying others into silence than answering for his failures and false statements.

And perhaps you agree that until he can reconcile his hypocritical behavior [including calling himself by a title he did not earn and criticizing the use of screen names on a site he does not own], anything else he says should be disregarded.

    Dear CrickeeRaven,

You put me in the same category as DonnaTravis calling us "two of a kind"??

    Wow. Thank you.

I'm very flattered, but the truth is, I don't hold a candle to her. My accomplishments are not worth mentioning in the same breath as her long list. If I left politics and spent the rest of my life, working 24 hours a day trying to do good I couldn't come close to what that lady has accomplished and she is just getting started.

Thank you again for such a sincere complement.

I never expected it from you.

    Hello bendover:

I will concede that it's getting repetitive now, seeing every comment of his proving more and more that the fake "mayor" is unfit for any office, and that the voters of Warwick made the correct decision to defeat his candidacy by a 65-35% margin last November.

Unfortunately, the fake "mayor" has shown no inclination to stop his activities on this site, whether or not anyone responds to him. The site owners have likewise shown no effort to moderate his clearly false statements and bullying behavior, and I find it objectionable that he should have such a forum to continue his behavior unchallenged.

Travis should stick with Easter Egg hunts and party planning- it's obvious City Council President is little more than a popularity contest and the qualifications should be a bit more stringent than, "Uhhhh, I'll do it!"; she's reached her Level of Incompetence (see the Peter Principle).

For once the Non-Taxpayer Mayor, Mayor DUMBNESS, has finally made a true statement. He states "My accomplishments are not worth mentioning", that is because he has no accomplishments to date other than a laundry list of litigation and unpaid bills where ever he goes. He also states " I don't hold a candle to her". Of course you don't. Her 8th grade education far surpasses your education and as far as civics issues and ability to comprehend complex fiscal issues, I never thought that there could be anyone who understood less than her. Then you came along. I think she may even have a new slogan. Thank god for Corrente, he makes me look smaht.
