Dorthy was born on a farm in Frazee, Minn. where she was raised in a Mennonite community along with her seven siblings. Throughout her life, this lifestyle shaped her work ethic, values and character. By her late teens, she followed her sister to San Francisco, Calif. where she worked in the accounting department of a department store. It was in San Francisco, where she met the love of her life and husband of 53 years. They were married and lived in Uxbridge, Mass. until 1966, when they moved their family to Warwick, where she has lived for the past 47 years. At 42 years old, having raised her family, she rejoined the workforce and worked with her husband at Winde-McCormick Laminates, serving as finance manager. In 1976, Dorthy and her husband, Frank purchased Stiller Distributors, a wholesale floor covering company, where she served as financial officer for 40 years. She was still working at the time of her death along side of her son Mark, current owner and CEO of Stiller Distributors. Dorthy was a prolific writer sending cards and letters, keeping in touch with family and friends across the country. She loved her weekly calls from family and looked forward to vacationing relatives stopping through Rhode Island while touring the East Coast. In 2011, she realized a lifelong dream and traveled to India to see the Taj Mahal. She loved to read, listen to music and especially loved watching her New England Patriots on TV. She volunteered in local elementary schools, actively participated in administrative duties at church and remained charitable throughout her life. She will be sadly missed by many. Her funeral service was held April 23, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Ann Mary Brown Drive, Warwick. Burial was at the Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick. Donations may be made in her memory to the Meeting Street School, 1000 Eddy Street, Providence, Rhode Island 02905.
