East senior class reaches goals as graduation nears

With high school graduation just days away, the senior class at Cranston High School East has had much to celebrate as they wrapped up their school year. Over the past four years, the class had set several goals, including hosting a free senior prom for all CHSE seniors and helping a local teen receive a wish through "A Wish Come True."

In the past few weeks, both goals were realized, with the senior prom having taken place on Friday, June 2, and a $5,000 check presentation ceremony to "A Wish Come True" taking place on May 31. According to class advisor, Andrea DiCicco, these culminating events represented many hours of time and effort in the form of multiple fundraisers which the class put together and participated in which would make Justen's Wish, a trip to Disney, a reality. Those events included a bowling night, a dodgeball tournament, an East/West basketball game, a fall car wash and yard sale, a Pinkberry fundraiser and an event at Mulligan's Island.

"Two additional sources of funds came from IMPACT MELANOMA and Chestnut Hill Baptist Church," DiCicco said. "Chestnut Hill Baptist Church heard about Justen's Wish and they donated $500.00 in his name. Our seniors also won the ‘Your Skin is In’ challenge, helping them to secure an additional $2,500."

DiCicco said that the total amount raised exceeded their goals, and helped to secure the wish. The remaining funds will be used for future CHSE scholarships.
