Elizabeth Jane Blackburn

Elizabeth Jane Blackburn

loving wife, mother

Elizabeth “Betty-Jane” Blackburn, 79, beloved wife of the late Henry Joseph Blackburn, passed away December 7, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Seneca Falls, N.Y.

Betty Jane was the only child of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Gilkenson. A lifelong resident of Warwick, she was a graduate of Lockwood High School, where she met her beloved husband. She took great pride in being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.

Betty Jane was an extremely creative woman whose talents included decorative painting, knitting, and flower- and wreath-making. She had a passion for jewelry and in fact designed many beautiful pieces. She and Henry had several passions. First and foremost, their love of their daughters and grandchildren was their greatest achievement. Betty Jane proudly cheered on grandchildren at their baseball and basketball games and she never missed a dance recital or competition. She enjoyed every concert and choral event and loved watching her granddaughters’ cheerleading events.

Betty Jane was an avid swimmer. She began going to yard sales back in the 1970s and recruited Henry and other family and friends to join her. She and Henry together enjoyed collecting antiques and rooting for both the Red Sox and the Patriots. She hosted many Bible studies in her home and brought many people to know and love the Lord. Until recently, Betty Jane enjoyed going to lunch with her high school friends. She was just simply a good and loving human being who will be sorely missed by many.

She leaves behind three loving daughters, Lori Landi and her husband, Michael, Geraldine Olivier and her husband, Jean, all of Seneca Falls, and Kathleen Blackburn of Warwick. She was the cherished grandmother of David Blackburn Kilduff, Kristen Kilduff Fernandez, Victoria and Julia Landi. She had two step-grandchildren, Robert and Amanda Parris Olivier. She was the great-grandma of Allie, Kole, Sabrina, Ava and Viviana. Betty Jane also leaves behind longtime friends Ann and Al Gemma, Dottie Van Blarcom, Phyllis Conti and Pamela Brock. She was the mother of the late Robert Stephen Blackburn.

Calling hours will be held at 9 a.m. with a Celebration of Life service at 10 a.m. Jan. 7, 2012 at Christ Church, 1025 Main St., East Greenwich.
