Epic Theatre presents 'Mr. Marmalade'

Epic Theatre Company opens its first season in its brand new space with a comedy so dark, you might want to bring a night light. Noah Haidlle’s “Mr. Marmalade” is a contemporary classic, and Epic is the first theater in Rhode Island brave enough to tackle it.

Lucy is a little girl with a big secret: her imaginary friend, Mr. Marmalade, is a cocaine-snorting, foul-mouthed, assistant-abusing tyrant, and he’s making her life miserable. Can she find

solace in Larry, New Jersey’s youngest suicide attempter? Or will she choose to hand her childhood over to the scariest man in Make Believe?

“Mr. Marmalade” is a devastating and devastatingly funny comedy about growing up and staying alive in modern times. The play is directed by Ross Gavlin and features Sarah Barlow, T.C. Belli, Vanessa Blanchette, Tim Caron, Joshua Christensen and Jason Quinn.

“Epic Theatre Company brings provocative contemporary work to Rhode Island, as well as new perspectives on classical theatre,” says its artistic producer, Kevin Broccoli. “We strive to continue the tradition of the ‘event’ theatre, where each production has built-in excitement both for the audiences and the artists involved.

Performances continue this weekend, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23 and 24 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
