Exceptional musicians

Four students from Toll Gate recently participated in the Rhode Island Music Education Association (RIMEA) All-State Orchestra at Vets Memorial Auditorium. Standing with their instruments are, from left: senior Maeve Lemus, violin; junior Jennifer Park, violin; freshman Jessica Leung, violin; and junior Madaleine Anthony, cello. “You could take any four students in the school, and you would find that these four take more AP [advanced placement] classes than any other, which says something about the importance of instrumental music,” said instrumental music teacher George Landrie. “They’re exceptional musicians and I’m proud of them.” Landrie also directs the Toll Gate Jazz Ensemble, shown here with their awards, who competed in the RIMEA All-State Jazz Festival on Feb. 4 at the University of Rhode Island and received an “Excellent” rating from the panel of judges.
