Express Employment drive collects 3,000 lbs. for Food Bank
The Express Employment Professionals Rhode Island franchise, located in Warwick, is doing its part to fight hunger in the Ocean State. Already with strong connections to the Rhode Island Food Bank, the Make A Wish Foundation, and the Children’s Miracle Network, this current drive comes out of an international effort put on by the parent company known as “Brand It Blue Day” that charges the franchises to get involved with issues in their communities.
Here in Rhode Island, the Food Bank is looking for non-perishable “kid-friendly” food to be used this summer in summer youth programs, meeting the increased need for food during the summer months.
Liliana Dolan, the franchise’s owner, described the response to the drive. On Monday, the company dropped off more than 514 pounds of food to the Food Bank. This amount resulted from clients filling bags originally given to them by the franchise. An additional 2,500 pounds of food have been collected through going door to door and donations brought to the office.
The delivery of all donations was originally planned for June 8, but since the Food Bank is closed on Saturdays, the pickup has been moved to either Wednesday or Thursday of this week.
But the support from Express won’t stop there. Inspired by this success, the franchise will continue to collect donations throughout the summer and Dolan hopes to partner more with the Food Bank in the future. The goal is to develop a working relationship in which the franchise collects food for those in the community and in turn, the Food Bank directs individuals who are looking for jobs to become clients of Express.
Reflecting on the experience thus far, Susie Esposito, business developer for the franchise, which provides guidance to those seeking employment, shared that she has had a lot of fun picking up donations and would like to offer thanks to all those who have given thus far.
She also turned to a quote from the T-shirt given to volunteers for the “Brand It Blue Day” to sum up the effort, “Putting a million people to work and doing good in our communities.”
Donations can be brought to 110 Jefferson Blvd. Suite E.
