Who wouldn’t be excited to meet a professional baseball player? Nina Dressel, a client at the Trudeau Center, felt as if she hit a grand slam when she met Boston Red Sox caption and catcher Jason Varitek, a team veteran of 15 years who’s earned four no-hitters. Nina also met slugger David “Big Papi” Ortiz, and pitchers Josh Beckett and Clay Buchholz, among others, in addition to being treated to a tour of Fenway Park, the home of the Sox. She watched batting practice and enjoyed the game from team owner John Henry’s seats, which are front row behind home plate. “It was awesome,” she said. Michael Sherman, the children’s recreation coordinator at Trudeau, along with his girlfriend Kim Johnson and his parents Steve and Shirley, accompanied Nina. Shirley met Larry Lucchino, president and CEO of the Red Sox, as well as a member of Henry’s ownership group, at an event by chance. She explained Nina’s love for the team and got them tickets. At the game, which took place in September, Varitek’s fiancée, Catherine Panagiotopoulos, sat behind them and arranged for them to get on the field and meet the players.
