Fesitvals, fireworks and more this weekend

There will be an abundance of Warwick activities this Memorial Day Weekend; so many that it would seem to be impossible to not find something that the whole family can partake in.

Festivals, a parade and activities galore, start as soon as today and run all the way up until Memorial Day.

St. Rita Church is holding its annual Waterfront Festival in Oakland Beach starting today. It runs through Monday. The festival runs from 5 to 10 p.m. today and tomorrow and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 11 p.m. On Monday, the hours are from noon to 8 p.m. The festival will have rides for everyone and children will have their own “Kiddie Kingdom.” In addition to church food and other attractions, fireworks displays will be held Saturday and Sunday.

Another site that shouldn’t be missed this weekend is the Pawtuxet Memorial Park – Avenue of Flags to be held Saturday through Monday. This year more than 300 tall American flags will be flying. This tradition honors veterans. Another tradition honoring veterans is the Warwick Memorial Day Parade on Monday starting at 9:30 a.m. The parade will begin at Bishop Hendricken High School and end at Veterans Memorial Park in the front of Warwick Veterans High School.

The 47th Annual Gaspee Days are also upon us. The Arts and Crafts Festival will take place May 26, 27 and 28. Beginning each of the three days at 10 a.m. and going until 5 p.m. on Narragansett Parkway in Warwick, there will be rides and games, and live music scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. One hundred to 150 craft exhibitors are expected to be present.

For an activity just for the adults, the Gaspee Block Party sponsored by O’Rourke’s, held May 26 from 6 to 11 p.m., is the place to be. It will be held at the Aspray Boat House in Pawtuxet Park. The entry fee is $5 and proof of age is required. The party is a fundraiser for the Gaspee Days Committee and there will be beer and live music for the adults to enjoy.
