The Warwick Fire Department and Warwick Firefighters Local 2748 held the annual memorial service to deceased members of the department Sunday in front of Station One in Apponaug. A bell rang as Battalion Chief Brian Cobb and Battalion Chief Michael Mernick read the name of each deceased member from the roll call. That was followed by the raising of the flag to half-staff and taps played by Firefighter Michael Mernick. In his comments, Mayor Joseph Solomon praised the sacrifices made by the men and women of the department for the city. Following a benediction given by Father and Department Chaplain Robert Marciano, those in attendance were invited to breakfast at the stationhouse floor provided by the Providence Canteen and Gel’s Kitchen 2 at 3003 West Shore Road. Retired Lt. Carl Pecchia of the RI Professional Firefighters Pipes and Drums played the bagpipe to open and close the ceremony.
