Warwick Firefighters Local 2748 and the Warwick Firefighters Relief Association will hold the second annual 5K road race and 1 mile walk this Sunday, October 22 at Goddard Memorial State Park. All of the proceeds from the event are being donated to Westbay Community Action. Last year, the event raised over $12,000, which was donated to Westbay CEO Paul Salera to assist their organization. The event was established to promote the importance of firefighter health & wellness.
The race begins at 10 a.m. Onsite registration will be available starting at 8 a.m., however, participants are encouraged to register online at warwickfirefighter5k.com prior to noon on Saturday, October 21. There is also an opportunity to register from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at The Trap Brew Pub & Grill, 195 Old Forge Road, Warwick.
Firefighters have planned a weekend full of activities in support of the cause beginning Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Trap Brew Pub & Grill. Participants for the event will receive a race t-shirts are invited to our post race celebration at the Trap Brew Bub & Grill. The celebration includes refreshments, live entertainment, corn hole tournament and raffles. In addition, trophies and medals will be presented to the top race finishers and there will be raffle giveaways.
Race committee members include retired Battalion Chief Robert Parmenter, Retired Lieutenant James Campbell, Battalion Chief Thomas Jessop, Lieutenant George Lusignan, Rescue Lieutenant Michael Carrerio, Rescue Lieutenant Andrew Sutton, Firefighters Michael Boynton Sr., Firefighter Michael Boynton Jr. and Firefighter Ethan Andrews.
Firefighters extend their sincere gratitude to this year’s sponsors, which include Coastway Community Bank, The Trap Brew Pub & Grill, South County Dermatology, Neighborhood Health Plan of RI, Elite Physical Therapy, Henrik’s Tree Service, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dimuccio, and Gammons Realty.
