First drive

Jeannine Sovet (left), a Warwick resident and phlebotomist at the Rhode Island Blood Center, enjoys a lighter moment with Regina Downing who came from Brooklyn, Conn. last Wednesday to donate blood at the Saint Elizabeth Terrace in Warwick. It was the first blood drive at the senior housing facility, which has been open since March of 2012. The R.I. Blood Center set a goal of eight pints for the day and at the time when Downing signed up, the count was seven. Barbara Castallone, a social staff member at the Terrace, explained that “our Saint Elizabeth Community held blood drives at two other locations: The SE Home in East Greenwich and SE Manor in Bristol.” All three locations exceeded the goals set by the R.I. Blood Center. “We were all very pleased and excited that Saint Elizabeth Community surpassed all three goals; at the Terrace, we reached nine pints of blood.” (Warwick Beacon photos by Pete Fontaine)
