First Fatherhood Legacy Award Breakfast is Oct. 4

The first annual Fatherhood Legacy Award Breakfast will be held Oct. 4 to acknowledge and celebrate the exemplary efforts of a Rhode Island dad and a professional who have gone above and beyond to promote responsible fatherhood in our state. The breakfast will be held from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at Rhode Island College, Anger Hall, Room 110.

Luis Galindez will receive the dad and community role model award. Sharon Santilli, Esq., director of Child Support Services, will receive the professional award. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Donald Unger, a writer, educator, father and author of “Men CAN”.

Sponsored by the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), the Child Welfare Institute, Rhode Island College School of Social Work and Casey Family Programs, this initiative to honor dads resulted in the creation of Leadership, Equity and Advocacy for Dads (L.E.A.D.). L.E.A.D. accepted nominations for individuals who promote a positive message of fatherhood, create greater visibility for the role of fatherhood as a support to children and improve access to education, advocacy and resources for fathers and their families.
