Francesco G. Iadevaia


Francesco G. Iadevaia, 90, died April 17, 2012 at Brentwood Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of Eva “Betty” (Smith) Iadevaia for 65 years.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Philomena (Murchelano) Iadevaia. Mr. Iadevaia was employed for Quonset Point Naval Air Station and Davisville for many years. He was a talented carpenter and designed and built the manger and furniture for St. Rose & Clement Parish, where he was a member and volunteer for many years.

A World War II Army veteran, he served as a waist gunner in the European Theater of Operations, where he was blown out of a B17 and was a POW in Germany for nine months. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in 1945.

Mr. Iadevaia is survived by two daughters, Patricia Soscia and Alisa Thompson; a sister, Agnes Iadevaia; three grandsons, Dr. Jason Soscia, Matthew Soscia and Nicholas Soscia; and great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Joseph, Michael, Vincent and Louis Iadevaia and Rose Kammerzell.

His funeral will be held April 21 at 9:30 a.m. from Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Clement Church, Long St., at 10:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours are April 20 from 4-8 p.m.
