Free college is a good plan

To the Editor:

Governor Raimondo’s plan to provide free college educations to Rhode Island’s citizens is an excellent idea.

Thankfully, after World War II ended, I was able to enroll at the University of Wisconsin under the G.I. Bill. I had served our nation as a Coast Guard Yeoman for two and a half years during World War II. Educating our citizens is a plus for our great state.

    Dear Rosetta,

Free education is a great idea. However Governor Raimondo is proposing "education-that-is-funded-by-the-taxpayers."

That is not "free", not by a long shot!

That cost is $33 million for the first year alone, and once the "program" takes off and the taxpayer is left to sign a blank check now that they are committed to "pay whatever the bill is", watch out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This bill will absolutely drain the taxpayers! Aren't we "TAXED-ENOUGH-ALREADY"?

    Don't support this.

Thank you for reading the warning label.

    Happy Spring everyone.

As someone who also 'earned' the GI Bill, I take offense at your comparison with giving any child a free college education with the GI Bill. One is earned. The other is FREE. Particularly free of harm.

I do wish people would stop using the word FREE, there is nothing free about this plan. The money will come from tax payers and the burden there is bringing many families to the breaking point - or maybe the relocation point is a better way to put it.

    Dear VoWarwick2017,

    Well put!

    FREE is a lie.

Like "The state income tax is temporary."

Like "The 1% state sales tax is temporary."

Like "The toll booths won't increase costs to the consumer."

Like "The proceeds from The Lottery will go to fund education".

Now our politicians are adding lies on top of lies with this FREE education lie. (on top of The Lottery lie)

Again, thanks for helping point that out.

    Happy Spring everyone.
