From Rhode Island to Qatar
RIDING IN STYLE: The Fabiano family uses a different type of Uber as they celebrate Col. Steve Fabiano becoming the newest brigade commander at the Camp As Sayliyah Army base in Qatar. Col. Fabiano shipped out to Qatar six weeks ago, and his family traveled from Rhode Island to visit him. Georgette Fabiano stays in Qatar with her husband, while their daughter Sarah studies as a freshman at Roger Williams University. Additionally, Col. Fabiano was appointed to the rank of Colonel last November, and has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Airborne Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
TAKING COMMAND: On June 24, 2019, Col. Steve Fabiano addressed an audience of more than 160 service members of the Area Support Group in Qatar (ASG-QA) during the Army’s change of command ceremony. This event took place at one of ASG-QA’s recreations centers at Camp As Sayliyah, and celebrated Col. Fabiano as the new brigade commander for the base. At the ceremony, Col. Fabiano said, “I’m extremely impressed with everything I’ve seen and I look forward to serving with you and for you for the next couple of years.” Col. Fabiano oversees 1,200 service members at the base and helps deal with tasks such as securing infrastructure while protecting the force, strengthening collaboration with local partners, and improving support while maximizing every resource available.
PROUD PARENT: Bob Fabiano, “Couldn’t be prouder” as his son Col. Steve Fabiano was promoted to the rank of Colonel last November. Col. Fabiano was named commander of the Area Support Group in Qatar (ASG-QA) within six weeks of his deployment to Qatar. He succeeds commander Col. Robert Kuth who had the position for 26 months. Col. Fabiano graduated from Cranston East in 1992 and was a member of the school’s first Junior ROTC. He attended Southern New Hampshire University before entering the United States Military Academy West Point, graduating in 1997. Col. Fabiano was captain of the skydiving team at West Point. After graduation, he was deployed to Iraq twice, and taught as a Military Professor for the National Security Affairs Department at the Naval War
College in Newport.
