The Gabrielle Dinsmore Heart & Hope Fund of Cranston has announced its first ever charity co-ed softball tournament, Gabrielle’s Grand Slam, to be held May 7.

This double elimination tournament is sponsored by the city of Warwick and will take place at their City Park fields from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“My husband, Jeff, and I met while playing softball. We recently played in a charity tournament and we found that it brought people together to celebrate a great cause,” said Louise Dinsmore, co-founder of the organization. “Since one of our mission objectives is to provide recreational activities, this was in perfect alignment with who we are.”

Gabrielle’s Grand Slam will have both a recreational and a competitive division, so all inquiring teams are encouraged to reserve their spot and pay a registration fee of $250 before April 9. Each division can hold eight teams, so teams consisting of 6 men and 4 women are advised to register as soon as possible. The event will also include refreshments for sale and a raffle. The mission of the Gabrielle Dinsmore Heart & Hope Fund is to be a recognized resource for providing emotional, recreational, educational and financial support to children and their families living in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts impacted by heart disease, congenital heart defects, and severe feeding issues. The signature program of the fund is Gabrielle’s Heart Camp – the only camp in this region exclusively for kids with congenital heart defects and heart disease.
