Higher crude prices push gas cost to $2.82 per gallon

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up seven cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA Northeast’s April 30 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.82 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is one cent above the national average of $2.81. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 48 cents lower at $2.34 per gallon.

“Crude oil prices topped 68 dollars a barrel today, rising 2.9 percent and hitting a three-year high,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs. “That spike in crude oil, combined with increased demand as the summer travel season approaches, is sharply pushing prices at the pump.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 33 cents, from a low of $2.66 to a high of $2.99. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up – every time.

    Dear Justanidiot,

I don't understand this one. The price of crude shouldn't be rising. They're producing record amounts of the stuff. But in either event, no Mayor, present or future, can control it for Warwick residents much. The tax revenue Warwick receives doesn't vary much when the prices go up or down.

Sorry, old friend. We'll just have to work on the things within Warwicks' control, like increasing the number of taxpayers to lessen the need for more taxes on the rest of us.

    Happy Spring Justanidiot.

    Happy Spring everyone.
