Gas prices trending downward

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down three cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s June 3 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.81 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is the same as the national average for regular unleaded. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was eighteen cents higher at $2.99.

“Gas prices have been trending lower now for the past month and there are no signs of pump prices changing gears toward more expensive for the summer season,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs. “One major indicator supporting this forecast is the price of crude oil, which dropped last week by $6 a barrel, one of the lowest prices of the year.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 34 cents, from a low of $2.65 to a high of $2.99.
