Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up eight cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s April 15 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.63 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is twenty cents lower than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.83. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was two cents higher at $2.65.

“Spring gas prices continue to climb as the switchover to summer blend gasoline, which is more expensive to produce, becomes more prevalent,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs. “Demand has skyrocketed in the last few weeks, and while prices locally are significantly below the national average, they are still up 21 cents since the start of the year.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 40 cents, from a low of $2.49 to a high of $2.89.
