George P. Wells, Jr.


George P. Wells, Jr., age 85, of Rutland Street, Warwick, died on July 26, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence. He was the husband of Carole A. (Ralphs) Wells.

Born in Providence, a son of the late George P. and Helen G. (Crowther) Wells, he was a life-long Warwick resident. A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he was a life member of William Shields Post # 43 American Legion, Memorial Post # 272, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Civil Air Patrol. Mr. Wells was a Deputy Sheriff with the Kent County Sheriff’s Department for 15 years before retiring in 1980. He was previously a member of the Warwick Police Department, and served as a sergeant with the Warwick Police Reserves for 20 years. He was a member of the Tri-City Lodge of Elks # 14.

Beside his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Joyce Gaspard and her husband, Pete of Oregon, and Sharon Yuettner and her husband, Steven of Warwick, four sons, John Wells of Warwick, George Wells and his wife, Mary of Arizona, Raymond Wells and his wife, Marianne of Warwick, and Paul Wells and his wife, Amy of Warwick; a brother, Robert E. Wells of North Kingstown, a sister, Carol Barrett of Westerly; fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

His funeral service was held on Monday, July 30, in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick. Burial with military honors was in the Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery, Exeter.
