Gershkoff Auto Body/Auburn Post 20 powered past R&R Construction, 5-3, at Cranston Stadium on Monday night.

Gershkoff was led by Max Pierce, who had a hit and two RBIs.

“I think he puts a spark into the team,” Gershkoff head coach David Schiappa said.

Ty Parrillo and Gianni Valentini both added two hits and an RBI each.
Gershkoff sent Austin Alzate to the hill to start the contest, but an elbow injury caused him to leave the game after just four batters. Gershkoff used a total of five pitchers in the game.

“It seemed like his arm hurt him and he felt something in his elbow,” Schiappa said. “So, I had to take him out, put Connor in quick and then we sort of pieced it together.”

R&R Construction’s Austin Walker led off the game with a single to center. On a wild pitch, Walker moved up to second before stealing third. With runners at the corners, R&R Construction executed a double-steal, which saw Walker score from third, giving it a 1-0 edge. Later in the inning, Connor Richardson hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in another run, putting R&R Construction up, 2-0.

In the bottom of the second inning, Gershkoff would get even and then some. Mitch Carvalho led off with a single on a ground ball up the middle. Carvalho would move all the way to third base during back-to-back passed balls. Then, Cam Harris drove him in with a single to center, pulling Gershkoff within 2-1. With two outs and runners at first and second, Parrillo blasted a double, scoring a runner and tying the game at 2. Next, Pierce scolded a two-RBI single, and gave Gershkoff a 4-2 edge. Pierce would wind up at third after a pair of errors. Then, Valentini launched a single to right to score Pierce, extending Gershkoff’s lead to 5-2.

The score would stay the same through the next four innings before R&R Construction tried to get it all back in the top of the seventh.

Gershkoff sent John Beneduce out to the hill to close it out. Beneduce gave up a pair of singles to start the inning, but he was able to strike out Eric Durudoga next. However, he would proceed to drill Payton Lee to load the bases. An error by the Gershkoff catcher during a pitch saw a baserunner trot in from third to pull R&R Construction within 5-3. With runners at second and third, Matt Hook earned a walk to reload the bases. Nonetheless, Beneduce was able to induce a pop up by Walker for the second out, and after that he fanned Konnor Kluth to end the ball game.

Gershkoff improved to 3-5 on the season with the win.
