Giant dog adoption day planned Sunday at Balise

Posted

More than 350 dogs will be at an automobile dealership near you this Sunday. All of them are looking for a good home.

On June 3, Balise Toyota of Warwick, will once again be transformed for giant dog adoption day run by Always Adopt.

The event will be held in the service areas and parts of the showroom that have been cleared out at the Balise Toyota dealership.

The dogs for adoption are from over 20 different Rhode Island registered pet rescues from all across the state. The Always Adopt event allows the different rescues to come together and work to give all of their rescued dogs homes.

For families that choose to do a pre-screened application, found online at alwaysadopt.com, adopting will start at 10:00 a.m. For others, applications will be available at the event and adoption will be held from 1 to 4:00 p.m.

Louise Anderson, founder of Always Adopt and organizer of the event, has been planning adoption events since attending a Best Friends Animal Society conference in Utah in 2012.

Always Adopt events have been held twice a year since 2013, with this upcoming event being the 12th. With each event, the turn-out grows larger. There were over 700 applications for volunteers for this event as well as 15 trainers and three veterinarians that will attend.

“A lot of people know about the event now, so they are looking forward to it,” Anderson said.

Anderson encourages families to come and pick out a dog that will be the best fit for everyone included. She also stressed the importance of bringing dogs that families already own as there will be a separate area where the dogs can interact and get to know each other before going home.

“It has to be the right fit,” she said.

Pictures of the dogs and puppies that will be included in the adoption can be viewed on the Always Adopt Facebook page.

Man, I wish I had room for a giant dog. I guess I will have to make do with my mini-doberman.
