Locals shine at divisions

The RIIL Girls track & Field Division Championships were held last Saturday at the Providence Career & Technical Academy, and a handful of local athletes made some noise in one of the biggest track events of the season prior to the state championships.

Pilgrim finished the day with a fifth place finish in its division, while Toll Gate took home eighth.

Here is a look at some of the results from the afternoon:

Dasani Stewart led Pilgrim with a second-place finish in the high jump, while Pilgrim’s relay team of Alaysia Royal, Sarah Lynch, Stewart and Alanna Coffie took third in the 800 relay.

Emmanuelle Degos finished third in the 3,000 run for Pilgrim, while Lynch, Stewart, Coffie and Amelia Murphy took third in the 1,600 relay.

Toll Gate’s relay team of Oce Lowe, Eunji Jang, Mollie Cunningham and Camille Remillard went on to take third in 3,200.

Lynch later took fifth in the long jump. Jocelyn Bechtel took home a sixth-place finish for Pilgrim in the weight throw, while Stewart took sixth in the long jump and Ava McCann sixth in the 3,000 run. Hannah Horace also took sixth in the weight throw for Toll Gate.

Toll Gate’s relay team of Cunningham, Lea Fortin, Jang and Isabella Caldarone took seventh in the 1,600 relay.

Royal later went on to take seventh in the 300 dash for Pilgrim, while teammate Alyssa Twomey took seventh in the 55 hurdles. Toll Gate’s Kaylah Staknis took seventh in the 55 hurdles, while Pilgrim’s Ava McCann placed eighth in the 1,000 run.

Toll Gate also got an eighth-place finish in the shot put from Horace.

Annabelle Sisson also finished ninth for Pilgrim in the 3,000 run, while Coffie finished behind her in 10th. Jolena Russo placed ninth in the weight throw while teammate Sakeena Khan took ninth in the long jump.

Jamee Salisbury later took 10th in the 1,000 run for Pilgrim, while Lowe took home a 10th-place finish in the 1,500 run for Toll Gate. Here are some more local results from the afternoon:

Cranston West’s Lindsey Hobin won the 55 hurdles while teammate Juliana Bucci won the shot put.

West’s relay team of Rachel Hobin, Aria Lee, Ayia Tatari and Estella Kue took second in the 3,200 relay, while Maddie Alves, Ashlee Tennett, Maddie Barbieri and Isabella Conti took silver in the 800.

Alves went on to take second in the 300 dash, while teammate Elizabeth Marses took second in the shot put.

East’s team of Aislinn Baxter, Eden Fisher, Anabel Rosario and Miko Lehnert finished second in the 3,200

Alves also placed third in the 55 dash for West, while Lindsey Hobin took third in the high jump. East’s Zoe Catrambone finished third in the 600 run, while Zoe Catrambone took third in the 1,000 run.

East’s relay team of Loezos, Catrambone, Madeline Baxter and Anabel Rosario took third in the 1,600. Catrambone also placed third in the high jump for East.

West’s relay team of Gianna King, Dea Xhupi, Tennett and Hailey King finished fourth in the 1,600. Loezos took fourth in the 1,500 run. East’s Shyan Ouch later placed fourth in the shot put

Gianna King finished fifth in the 300 dash for West, followed by Barbieri in sixth. Lee later finished fifth in the 1,000 run.

Lindsey Hobin finished sixth in the 55 dash while Vy Ho finished sixth in the shot put. Baxter then took sixth in the 1,500 run.

Kue finished seventh in the 3,000 run for West while Tatari took seventh in the 1,000 run. Barbieri finished seventh in the high jump for West. Fisher took seventh in the 3,000 run for East, while teammate Rosario took seventh in the 55 hurdles. Ouch also took seventh in the weight throw.

East’s Madison Gunderway also finished seventh in the shot put.

Rachel Hobin took eight for West in the 1,500 run while Marses placed eighth in the weight throw. West’s Emma Wenzel also finished eighth in the long jump.

Waimea Dodge finished ninth in the 300 dash, while teammate Tarah Costa took ninth in the high jump and Mary DeSilva ninth in the weight throw. Lehnert took ninth for East in the 3,000 run.

Maddie Salvato took 10th in the 55 hurdles for the Falcons, while Conti took 10th in the long jump.

Johnston’s Lala Olagundoye won the high jump for the Panthers and also finished second in the long jump and third in the 600 run. Teammate Bella Johnson placed fourth in the shot put, while Milana Melvin took fifth.

Kylie Viveiros took seventh in the high jump, while Victoria Winsor took seventh in the shot put.

The Lady Panthers relay team of Irissa Jimenez, Jennelle Fernandez, Taylor Powell and Gezzelle Fernandez finished eighth in the 800. Powell also placed eighth in the 300 dash and 10th in the 55 hurdles.
