Giutarri cements legacy at Hamilton

Warwick native Michaela Giuttari proved to be one of the best field hockey players to ever come out of the city during her collegiate career at Hamilton College.

Giuttari had another strong campaign in her senior season, starting all 17 games as team captain and finishing with a team-high 18 points.

Giuttari completed her career with Hamilton as the program’s all-time goal scorer with 54, and had the most points ever with 132.

Her stellar senior campaign earned her a spot on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s All-Region team for the third straight year.

“It's been very exciting. I started playing field hockey during my junior year of high school with no intention of playing in college, so the fact that I have garnered any attention is really an honor that wouldn't have been possible without my teammates by my side,” said Giuttari of the recognition.

Giuttari also thanked her coaches for helping her develop as a player and reaching her full potential on the field throughout her college career.

“My coaches have definitely had a huge impact on who I am as a player. They constantly pushed me to do more and get better. Everyday they would help me focus on one thing to get better at and I think that really helped me develop into a solid overall player,” said Giuttari.

Not only was Giuttari proud of her performance on the field, but was also excited to be able to do it as the team’s captain and to prove to also be a great leader on a young team.

“This was definitely one of my most exciting seasons. I was one of two seniors on the team, so the team was fairly young. At the beginning of the season we were a little nervous about how we were going to be, but we ended up making it to the semifinals, and I think that was very telling of how persistent and resilient the team was. I loved the team and they made it very easy to be a leader for them,” said Giuttari.

Giuttari is now hitting the ice as she also competes for Hamilton’s women’s hockey team. This winter season will mark the end of her competitive sports career, and she is planning to return back to the area at the conclusion of the school year.

“I am also on the Hamilton hockey team, so right now I am in the midst of hockey season. But after this season, it will be the end of competitive sports for me. I will be graduating in May and moving back to the east coast for work,” said Giuttari, who is going to miss the Hamilton community and competing alongside her teammates and coaches.

“I'm going to miss the competition everyday during practices and games. I'm going to miss getting out of class and being so excited to go see my friends everyday after school. Our team is really like a family, including the coaches and their families so just spending time with everyone is something I will really miss.”
