To the Editor, The fall is in full swing and there are so many important, fun, and exciting events happening across our City. Individuals and groups are coming together to help our neighbors, schools, and environment. Last month, led by the Warwick business Slocum Realty, pumpkins were donated and delivered door-to-door in Greenwood. The group also organized a food drive that resulted in over 1,000 pounds of food being donated to the RI Food Bank. The food drive also resulted in the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation donating $1,000 to Greenwood Elementary. Greenwood also recently hosted the 22nd annual Halloween parade. The rain held off and children marched in costume around the neighborhood before a big night of trick or treating. Of note, Norwood Elementary collected Halloween candy to make care packages to send to our troops serving overseas as part of Operation Gratitude. The Warwick Police and Fire Department also hosted events for the community. The Police Department held a car seat safety event to ensure car seats are installed properly, and the Fire Department hosted a fire safety day. Toll Gate senior Erin O’Toole organized a cleanup at City Park Beach, where we collected over 130 pounds of trash. The Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter and the Warwick Animal Shelter served a full house at the 15th annual pasta dinner and raffle to benefit Warwick’s homeless animals. The Central RI Chamber of Commerce hosted the Taste of Fall, showcasing over 20 of the great restaurants we have here in Warwick and providing samples for attendees to enjoy. These are just a few examples of some of the great things happening across our City, and many more are on the horizon, including Veterans’ Day ceremonies, food drives, meat raffles, steak fries, bazaars, and turkey trots. Each of these events will further enrich our already vibrant community. My hope is the weather stays nice, and we can all get out there to participate in some of the fun, worthwhile events that benefit our neighbors.
