Grateful for music reviewer

To the Editor:

I would like to thank Don Fowler’s article (Beacon 4/18/19) on the Rhode Island Philharmonic’s resident conductor, Francisco Noya. He is quite remarkable in performing all of his various responsibilities with acclaim and tremendous knowledge of classical music. I have watched him since he arrived 22 years ago, providing our beloved Larry Rachleff, who left us last year after 21 years of extraordinary performances. The Philharmonic is now only second in New England to the world famous Boston Symphony.

I have always loved music and will begin my 74th year with the Rhode Island Philharmonic in September (I missed the first year) and look forward to our new famous conductor and pianist Bramwell Tovey. During my past eight years on the Warwick School Committee, I attended 227 school concerts during this period. There is wonderful talent among the singers and musicians and would ask that the parents of those students to attend the Philharmonic concerts if at all possible, especially with their children 10 to 18 years of age. The experience will be extremely worthwhile and enjoyable for them and their futures. Good music will always benefit education.

Finally, I again want to express my thanks to the best reviewer of music, plays and restaurants, Don Fowler. For many years he has been an exceptional asset to the Warwick Beacon and its readers. Don should and could easily replace the Providence Journal’s critic, Channing Gray. He has set the standard for integrity and excellence. May he continue to do so; someday I hope to meet him.
