Hawks keep winning, top Rams

Fresh off its championship in the Mount St. Charles Holiday Face-off, the Bishop Hendricken hockey team was denied a half its chance at another statement-making weekend when Friday’s game with Mount St. Charles was postponed. But the Hawks still took the ice Saturday and delivered all they could, knocking off La Salle 3-1 at Dennis Lynch Arena in Pawtucket.

The Rams had accounted for the only blemish on Hendricken’s schedule thus far, a 2-2 tie on Dec. 21. This time, the Hawks grabbed a lead in the second period after a scoreless first and held off the Rams to win 3-1.

Andrew Fera led a balanced attack with a goal and an assist, with Jonathan Finelli and Patrick Creamer scoring the other goals. Bryce Dolan, Liam Watkinson and Joshua Olson added assists. Christian Maselli got the start in net and made 24 saves.

The Hawks are now 4-0-1 in league play and 7-0-1 overall. A busy weekend awaits, with a league game Friday against Barrington and a special event Saturday. The Hawks will take on Boston College High School at 1 p.m. at Brown University’s Meehan Auditorium, ahead of a college showdown between Brown and Boston College.

’Canes back to action

The Warwick Vets hockey team is 1-5 so far this season and will have plenty of time to work on improving over the next few weeks. The ’Canes have just one league game in the three weeks between a Dec. 28 loss to Scituate and a Jan. 20 game against Scituate.

The one game on the schedule is a Friday match-up against East Providence at Dennis Lynch Arena at 9:30 p.m. The Townies are 4-2 thus far.

League hoops

Thanks to a later-than-usual start date for practice and weather postponements the last few weeks, the league season has barely gotten underway for boys’ and girls’ basketball teams.

Most boys’ teams have played one league game so far, with North Kingstown’s three games as the high heading into Monday’s action. On the girls’ side, no team has played more than two games and in Division II, only two teams had even started league play as of Sunday.
