Hawks open 2013 with victory
After going 2-1 in the Mount St. Charles Holiday Faceoff, the Bishop Hendricken hockey team opened the New Year with a 3-1 victory over Coventry on Tuesday afternoon in their return to league action.
Ed Markowski broke a 1-1 tie in the third period and Matt Creamer added another goal soon after as the Hawks stayed perfect in Division I play. Dakota Hersey had the other goal for the Hawks, and Mitch Proulx made 15 saves in net.
At the Mount St. Charles tournament, the Hawks lost their opener 8-3 to La Salle College High School of Pennsylvania, but bounced back to beat St. Joseph’s 2-1 and Bishop Guertin 3-1.
Hendricken will continue its league slate with a pair of games this weekend. The Hawks play Barrington on Friday at 7 p.m. at Thayer Arena before meeting Mount St. Charles for the first time this season on Saturday night. That game is slated for 9 p.m. at Adelard Arena.
