Helen (Roy) McGovern, 85, of Cranston, died peacefully January 13, 2012 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center. She was the wife of the late John J. McGovern (P.P.D.).
Born in Cranston, she was a daughter of the late Fred Roy Sr. and Amelia (Olynik) Roy. McGovern was an electrologist for many years until her retirement. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, a founder of the Providence Police Wives Association, a member of the Cranston Country Club, and an avid golfer and bowler.
She leaves her beloved children, John J. McGovern and his wife, Cynthia, of Narragansett, Stephen R. McGovern and his wife, Erin, of Cranston, Karen J. Bucci of Cranston, Marilyn A. McGovern of West Warwick and son-in law, David R. Jeschke of Greenville. She was the mother of the late Helene A. Jeschke, cherished grandmother of 10 and grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was the sister of Fred Roy of Warwick, Olga Audet of East Greenwich, Eugenia Conaty of Riverside, A. Mildred Sullivan of Warwick and Madlyn Nelson of Florida.
Her funeral will be held Jan. 17 at 8:45 a.m. from Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 237 Garden Hills Dr., Cranston. Burial will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
